The Green Bay Packers linebacker Za’Darius Smith had eight tackles, three sacks, and four tackles-for-loss in Sunday’s 30-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
That has earned the 6′ 4″, 275-pound athlete the honor of N-F-C Defensive Player of the Week.
Smith was dominant as Green Bay improved its spotless record to 4-0 entering its bye week.
With five sacks, Smith is tied with Myles Garrett for the league lead. At 28 years old, he is proving to be one of the Packers’ best-ever free agent signings.
The Packers are on their bye week, taking time to recover from injuries and relax for a few days – but, 2020 in a new kind of season. Even on a bye week the Packers and the Detroit Lions players have to provide daily specimens for COVID-19 testing.
In the past, players have returned to their hometowns, taken families on quick trips, or visited their alma maters for a college football game. Not this year.
N-F-L Commissioner Roger Goodell has warned all 32 teams that any violations of COVID-19 protocols that force schedule changes could result in penalties – including forfeiting games, fines, or loss of draft picks.
