Attention hunters, specifically those who hunt near Marinette. The DNR is reporting that deer in that area have been found to have PFAS in their system.
PFAS, or polyfluoroalkyl substances, are man-made chemicals used in a variety of non-stick products such as fire-fighting foam, and can increase cancer risk, affect growth, learning, and women’s fertility in humans.
Meat from the deer’s muscle and heart are safe to eat, but PFAS accumulates in the liver, making it unsafe to consume.
