With safety protocols in mind, high school football teams in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference began workouts for their Fall season one week ago.
One of those is Roncalli, where longtime Jets assistant, Paul Kinsella, has taken over the head coaching reins.
“Things have been going well,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “It’s a lot more mental work. For a lot of the summer we were very limited on how we could get together, and the things we could do…hopefully we can be a smarter football team this year.”
Kinsella said that a big challenge will be for his players to try to learn to play physical because they missed out on seven practices or so because they couldn’t do their two-a-days they normally do before school starts.
Coach Kinsella believes that 6’ 5”, 295-pound offensive tackle & defensive end Trevor Fiecko will be a bell cow, or leader of the Jets this season.
Fiecko is a returning senior and three-year starter and he’s “rarin’ to go.” He said he is “extremely happy we get to play in the fall” along with a solid group of seniors and 3-year letter winners.
Trevor said he utilized a weight set his uncle has in his basement to stay in shape, and that he wants to play at the highest level he can.
The Jets football team has a scrimmage this Friday evening at crosstown Manitowoc Lutheran against the Lancers followed by their season opener versus Chilton at Ron Rubick Municipal Field on Friday September 25th.
