Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers taught Minnesota’s youthful cornerbacks some lessons in a 43-34 decision Sunday afternoon to open the 2020 N-F-L season.
Rodgers connected on 32-of-44 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns, with Wide receiver Davante Adams caught two of the scoring passes and tied a franchise record with 14 receptions. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard also were on the receiving end of T-D passes and Aaron Jones rushed for 66 yards and a score.
Green Bay cornerback Jaire Alexander recorded a safety in the second period and picked off a pass.
The Packers did suffer a few key injuries during the game, including offensive linemen Lucas Patrick and Lane Taylor, and D-Lineman Kenny Clark. Details on the extent of their injuries are expected to be revealed sometime this week.
Packers President and C-E-O Mark Murphy says the team’s players respect the national anthem and the flag, but also “the right to express ourselves.”
The players decided to remain in the locker room during the national anthem as a show of unity for social justice and racial equality. Murphy says he and the team call on leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue that “results in change.”
During the season-opening game at U-S Bank Stadium, the players work a number-87 decal on their helmets to honor former Packer and Hall of Fame defensive end Willie Davis. The number will remain on the players’ helmets all season.
The Packers host the Detroit Lions next Sunday in the home opener at Lambeau Field.
