Some Wisconsin school districts are running into an unexpected problem as they try to move forward with fall sports.
There was already a shortage of referees and many of them in Wisconsin are deciding they don’t want to call games during the coronavirus pandemic.
A significant percentage of Wisconsin sports officials are older, making the COVID-19 threat for them much more serious.
The refs who are willing to work games will likely take precautions like wearing a mask and using an electronic whistle.
