Governor Tony Evers is sending 500 more Wisconsin National Guard soldiers to support law enforcement during the civil unrest in Kenosha. The governor declared a state of emergency Tuesday and authorized increasing National Guard support by 250 members. The protests turned violent Tuesday night and two people were fatally shot by an alleged white vigilante and one person was injured. Evers’ spokeswoman Britt Cudaback confirmed that the governor spoke with White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows this morning (Wednesday). Evers declined Meadows’ offer to provide Department of Homeland Security assistance Tuesday. The F-B-I, A-T-F and U-S Marshals are assisting local authorities. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth says there is a 7 p-m curfew today so officers can disperse the peaceful protesters in daylight.
