Four cadets from St. Norbert College in De Pere are testing their physical and emotional limits with a 140-mile ruck march.
The march is not just for their own pleasure however, as one of the marchers, Senior Carsen Sherrick told SeehaferNews.com that they are raising money for a Green Bay organization called 4th Hooah.
“The help out local veterans in Wisconsin who suffer from mental illness and suicidal thoughts,” Sherrick explained. “They also do window and AC repairs as well as taking the scuba diving and sky diving.”
The trail they are taking began in Green Bay, went through Two Rivers on Highway 42, and paused in Manitowoc last night. The four Young men started marching Tuesday morning at around 7:30 AM and reached Manitowoc just after 7:00 PM.
Sophomore Samuel Skiff explained that they are making sure to stay hydrated during their adventure by drinking Gatorade and water, which is sometimes given to them by passing motorists.
Sherrick said the response for their ruck march has been overwhelming, including one small but significant gesture. “We had a couple of kids set up a lemonade stand to raise money for us,” Sherrick said. “The response had ben great.”
Sherrick and Skiff were also joined by Jason Ortscheid and a fourth marcher, who had to seek medical treatment for some foot issues, but we have been informed that he will be ok.
This is the 5th year of the event, and they left this morning at 8:00 AM. If you want to get involved you can meet them on their route, which is posted on their Facebook page, For Them-140 Mile Ruck March, or you can donate directly to 4th Hooah at HooahInc.org/
