Wisconsin Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez says this year’s return to football will be “nothing like the experience we all love.”
The Badgers will play their home games in Camp Randall Stadium with nobody in the stands, no “Jump Around,” no game-day atmosphere.
Alvarez says his department is facing a deficit of $60 to $100 million this season.
He’s asking season ticket holders to donate the money they spent on game packages to U-W athletics rather than asking for a refund.
Those season ticket holders will also have the option of rolling this year’s purchase to the 2021 season.
Meanwhile, the Big Ten has released the revamped 2020 football schedule which has the Badgers opening at home Friday September 4th against Indiana. That will be followed by back to back road games at Northwestern September 12th and Nebraska September 19th.
The Badgers come home to host Minnesota September 26th before heading back on the road for an October 3rd game at Maryland. A home game is scheduled with Purdue October 10th before the first of two byes October 17th.
Wisconsin returns to action with a home game October 24th with Illinois and travel to Michigan October 31st before their second bye November 7th. The Badgers finish the regular season the regular season November 14th at Iowa and conclude with a home game against Rutgers November 21st.
The Big Ten Championship Game is scheduled for December fifth in Indianapolis.
The Big Ten announced a month ago that the season would be shortened, and non-conference games eliminated because the pandemic with one of those being against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field.
Kickoff times have yet to be been released.
The Big Ten cautioned that there’s no certainty games will be played but make up games- if necessary-could Be played during bye weeks.
