
Wisconsin’s chief elections official says the state may have to call on the National Guard to work the polls for next week’s primary election.
Wisconsin clerks estimate they need about 900 poll workers for the August 11th vote.
Meagan Wolfe says state, county or municipal employees, teachers, students, or someone looking for temporary work – municipal clerks need you to “step up.”
There are requests for more poll workers in municipalities in 40 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
Appleton needs 60, while Green Bay and Oshkosh are short by 50 poll workers. Eighty-six are needed in Milwaukee County.
Many former poll workers are in their 60s, 70s and 80s and have health conditions that put them at risk during the coronavirus pandemic.
