Two Rivers native and Roncalli High School graduate, Jeff Siebold, literally ran from morning ‘til night to achieve his goal of running 100-miles back in June.
The 42-year old ultra-marathoner had previously signed up to run in Kettle Moraine and was in training since January for the event, but due to uncertainty the race would be held because of COVID-19, Siebold decided to run solo on June 13th and blaze-a-trail to Door County, the site of boyhood & family connections.
With a previous long run of 62 miles, the UW-Whitewater Finance major started from his parents’ house in Two Rivers early in the morning, running along Highway 42 for most of the trip. He said that his 100-mile trip ended just north of Sister Bay.
We asked Jeff if he met all of his goals, to which he said, “Going into it my only goal was to see if I could actually finish it…I had no idea what kind of time it would take me, or should take me, but I finished in 19 hours. I started at 4:00 AM and I finished just after 11:00 PM.”
Siebold acknowledged he had minor body aches the next day but said it “went much better than he ever could’ve imagined.”
As for what drove him to attempt to run 100-miles, Jeff said it was to prove to himself he could do it, but there was another motivating factor too. His dad biked across the country when he was a child, and said “That stuck with me in a big way.”
Jeff, the son of Joe & Carol Siebold, stopped occasionally for food along the way and received the mental support he needed from his wife and children and his parents.
So, what’s next for this accountant for McDonald’s world headquarters in Chicago? Siebold says his goal within the next 10-years is to do the Western States 100 in California, which is known as the Boston Marathon of ultra-running.
