Ben Gamel has some big shoes to fill – especially on defense.
All-Star centerfielder Lorenzo Cain notified the Brewers Saturday he will opt-out of the rest of the 2020 season.
That leaves the door open for Gamel who hit .248 last year.
Cain has been the team’s Gold Glove centerfielder for the last two seasons. He has hit .287 with 22 home runs and 55 stolen bases in parts of four seasons.
Gamel has hit .263 in five major league seasons with Seattle and Milwaukee. Metrics show he is a slightly about average centerfielder.
