A Whitefish Bay man has been sentenced to life in prison for a road rage shooting last year.
36-year-old Matthew Wilks said he killed Tracey Smith in self-defense after a traffic accident.
A jury found him guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in February. He was sentenced during a Tuesday appearance in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
The defense never disputed that Wilks shot Smith. The question was whether he intended to kill her, or whether it was a reckless act.
Smith was a sergeant at the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility.
