A topic of conversation that has been on the forefront of a lot of people’s minds over the past several decades is the legalization of Marijuana.
A vast majority of states in the country have passed some sort of law legalizing it is one way or another, but Wisconsin is not one of them. In fact, the Dairy State is one of only 8 states where marijuana is completely illegal. In the Midwest, the drug is completely legal in both Michigan and Illinois, and is available for medicinal purposes in Minnesota, where it is also decriminalized.
Assemblyman Paul Tittl spoke with SeehaferNews.com recently, and said the laws in our state have actually hurt some local businesses. He said that recently Dave Van Gienkel, who owns the Two Rivers Cannabis Company had to burn five months’ worth of his hemp because they tested .1% over the allowable amount of THC as per state law. Tittl said there are many aspects of that story that upset him, saying “The way it was sampled was possibly wrong. I think the way that everything that transpired with that is wrong.”
He went on to state that his stance on marijuana legalization, is a little different from some of his Republican colleagues. “I’m not for just your run of the mill, wide open marijuana use,” he explained. “But I have studied the prospect of medical marijuana.” He said that he has teamed up with Shae Sortwell, and many others to “do something about medical marijuana.”
Tittl said he has spoken with people from other states who showed him evidence that marijuana has helped with many ailments, including cancer, nausea, pain relief and many others.
That being said, the local Assemblyman said that we will have to “Do it different,” than other states have in the past. Tittl has a brother who lives in California, and he told the local Assemblyman that “When they had medical marijuana in California it was so abused…They set up these kiosks down at the beach, and if you go in there, for $100 and tell them you are anxious, you can get a medical marijuana card. I think we can do it, but we will have to do it differently. That’s the way I could support it.”
Tittl went on to say, “We will be looking at that next session, if the people send me back there.”
He also said that he uses some of the products that are sold at Two Rivers Cannabis Company, and suggests that anyone who has any questions about hemp talk to Dave, calling him “The most knowledge able person in our area about hemp and the benefits of hemp.”
