A basketball coach is being criticized for punching a 15-year-old girl at an independent game being played at Germantown High School Wednesday.
The incident was captured on video.
In the resulting fight, the girl’s mother had one of her teeth knocked out.
The coach seen swinging at the athlete, Craig Hawley, says he, his son and others were defending themselves because they were attacked first. Hawley says his son’s eye socket was broken when he was hit.
The teenage girl was black and the coach was white, but the people involved say the conflict wasn’t racial.
No arrests have been made and police say no charges can be filed unless a complaining victim comes forward.
