Families in the Mishicot School District will “tentatively” have two options to choose for their child to learn as classes resume in the fall.
Superintendent and High School Principal Dr. Paul Orlich says the recommendations were made at this week’s Board of Education meeting for “Traditional brick and mortar school five days a week starting September 1st. As for those families that are initially uncomfortable with the traditional model and would prefer an E-Learning model” that is also available. He said some families may have learned “that was a learning style that worked best for their child.”
Dr. Orlich tells SeehaferNews.com that a majority of 520 parents that took part in a survey indicated that they wanted a traditional return to class, but “I can’t say everyone is going to go with the five day school week, but I think every district is trying their best to provide as many safety precautions as they can while at the same time trying to meet students educational needs, as well as what their local stakeholders, or families want.”
The Mishicot Superintendent emphasizes that this is “not etched in stone” as they must be prepared to be as nimble and flexible to adapt due to the fluidity of the pandemic. He added that “our goal is to provide the kids the best educational experience we can while at the same time making sure we’re ensuring the overall health and welfare of students-staff and the community as a whole.”
Meanwhile, Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Mark Holzman went to Facebook yesterday afternoon and stated that they are “ready to gather additional input from our families and community stakeholders” and included a link to a presentation which outlines all the work they have done so far.
In Sheboygan, the School District is considering several different options for their elementary, middle, and high schools. They are expected to make a final decision later this month.
