In Valders the Annual “Viking Strider Fun Run” WILL go on as scheduled Saturday, August 1st, and will honor a former administrator and assistant coach.
According to Valders Cross Country Coach, Bill Dietrich, they’re naming it the Viking Strider and Derrick Krey Memorial Fun-Run. Krey died in February and the renaming is to honor his legacy as an assistant coach in the cross country program and his dedication to helping the Middle School runners. He was also part of Valders teams in 1988-’89 that captured a state championship.
Coach Dietrich says they will install a memorial bench at the Cross Country Invite course finish line near the tennis courts. The 2.5-mile runs that morning will finish at that location, too.
They’ll be set up for social distancing in the registration areas on August 1st, and signup is being done online thru the website runsignup.com/Race/WI/Valders/VikingStriders2Mile2016.
