A Manitowoc County Baord Supervisor is facing criticism after he made anti-Black Lives Matter comments at a recent Manitowoc City Council Meeting.
Don Zimmer, who represents District 10, took the stand during the public comment portion of the meeting and said, “Yesterday I sent an e-mail to my Alderman, Courtney Pelot-Hansen expressing my outrage that she would enthusiastically participate in a rally this past weekend involving the Black Lives Matter organization. I condemned Black Lives Matter as a criminal organization, which throughout the nation has promoted looting, rioting, destruction of property, and physical attacks on law enforcement officers and others.”
Zimmer went on to point to the idea of defunding the police, which is something the Black Lives Matter organization is attempting to have happen. He stated, “I wonder what local law enforcement officers like the ones that were here earlier think when they hear that a legislator on the City Council of the City of Manitowoc sings the praises of, and supports an organization that seeks their destruction, and constantly spews forth with the most vile hatred directed at them.”
Many people have taken to social media to call for Zimmer’s resignation.
