The Green Bay economy is expected to take a $40 million hit due to the recent announcement that fans will not be allowed to attend Packers training camp, Family Night or preseason games.
While fans are upset that they won’t be able to attend the events, the local businesses are what is really going to suffer according to local experts.
These businesses have already seen dramatic and sudden declines in sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and now that the thousands that normally attend Packer events won’t be around, some businesses could have trouble keeping their doors open.
It is estimated that roughly $9 to $10 million will be lost from training camp and Family Night, and $15 million from each missed pre-season game.
The recently canceled game between Wisconsin and Notre Dame is also expected to pull $55 million from the local economy.
