6th District Congressman Glen Grothman has followed up his words with his actions recently, as he donated his April congressional pay check to several area charities.
When asked why he wanted to do it, he explained that “In Congress we are well compensated, and so many of the people who are involved in shutting down local businesses are collecting a handsome check themselves. Certainly that includes Congress, so I decided to give one month’s take home pay, about $10,000, to local food pantries.”
As for where he donated that money the Congressman told SeehaferNews.com, “In the Manitowoc Area, I stopped by the Two Rivers Food Pantry, and the Manitowoc Salvation Army. They were grateful for it, and it’s always wonderful to meet the volunteers who man these food pantries.”
Grothman said that these places have gotten busier over the pandemic, and with benefits set to be reduced at the end of the month, they are likely to get even more busy. “So it’s an important thing to remember those people in need,” Grothman said. “Especially those of us who are not taking a financial hit during the coronavirus should remember those people who are.”
Grothman also called upon citizens to support local businesses who have also been struggling amid fewer people going out to their stores and restaurants.
