A Brown County Circuit Court judge will let the defense present evidence another man is responsible for the murder George Burch is accused of committing. A jury trial for Burch is scheduled to begin next February. He is charged with murdering Nicole VanderHeyden. Burch’s attorneys say Douglass Detrie is the guilty party. Detrie was actually the first person arrested for killing VanderHeyden, but lack of evidence led to his release two weeks later. Investigators say D-N-A samples taken from the dead woman’s body and clothing led them to Burch and he was arrested last month.
