Milwaukee aldermen have gone on record opposing the use of chokeholds by police officers. Members of the Common Council approved a resolution earlier this week that asks the Fire and Police Commission to formally ban them. Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa says the resolution was passed in memory of the man choked to death at an off-duty Milwaukee police officer’s home in April. Officer Michael Mattioli faces a charge of reckless homicide in the death of Joel Acevedo.
