The head engineer for the approximately $26 million Waldo Boulevard reconstruction project in Manitowoc, has an update today on the 14th Street to County Trunk R portion of the work.
Brian Haen from the Green Bay office of the State Department of Transportation tells SeehaferNews.com, that they are roughly on schedule, but may be ahead of schedule by a little bit. “There’s a lot of work that needs to happen once the concrete gets down,” he explained. “It just takes time.”
The eastbound lanes of Waldo are in place and underground utility construction will be completed by next week, followed by trimming in preparation for more concrete paving. Haen explains the electrical contractor will install conduit for traffic signals & street lighting in the next week.
Much more will be noticed by residents in the next month or so. Haen said “Once we get out of some areas, where we finish up the sidewalks, and we can backfill the curb, put sod in the terrace and grass planting behind the sidewalks, I imagine you will be able to see that.”
As they work from east to west, the D-O-T project manager believes the last portion of the Waldo reconstruction stretch to open up will be between North 23rd Street & the new bridge over the railroad tracks.
Haen said traffic signal work is also slated to begin next week at the intersection of Waldo & County R or Rapids Road.
Haen says they’re on target to completely open the 1.8-mile stretch of highway from R to North 14th in early October, which would be earlier than anticipated.
