The Department of Natural Resources reports the coronavirus pandemic is returning anglers to lakes, rivers and ponds this summer.
Fishing is emerging as a favored sport due to restrictions on most other activities.
The D-N-R says more than one million people have bought Wisconsin fishing licenses this year, an increase of 18 percent from the same time last year.
Wisconsin waters have remained open for fishing without restrictions throughout the winter and spring.
Nearly 86 thousand licenses were bought for the first time.
