Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
Ninth District State Senator Devin LeMahieu does not mince words when it comes to who needs to take leadership during the recent unrest in Madison.
While speaking with SeehaferNews.com, LeMahieu said, “The Governor of the State of Wisconsin commands the State Patrol and can call up the National Guard. He hasn’t been as forthcoming as I think he should in condemning the violence.”
While LeMahieu is a legislator, he doesn’t have any control over the deployment of any police forces or the Naitonal Guard.
LeMahieu also voiced his displeasure at the choice of words used by Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes on Twitter. According to LeMahieu, “Barnes, who seems to fan the flames quite a bit, when he tweeted out about my colleague, Senator Tim Carpenter who was assaulted, his disappointment was that Senator Carpenter is on the right side with the protestors, which is why it was unfortunate that he got assaulted. That implies that if it was me, a Republican Senator, that would have been ok if I was assaulted, which doesn’t help things out at all.”
The Oostburg Republican serving central and southern Manitowoc County added “Violence needs to be condemned whether it be against a Republican-Democrat or anybody. We need to condemn violence-and stop it and if there is a protest that it’s peaceful. If not give police (law enforcement) the authority to reign it in and ‘nip it in the bud’.”
