An emergency call yesterday afternoon in the city of Brillion turned out to be a false alarm.
Brillion police officers were summoned about 2:15pm to the Ariens Company at 655 W. Ryan Street for the report of an active shooter alarm. Upon arrival, authorities observed Ariens employees evacuating the building and officers immediately entered the plant to conduct a search for a possible active shooter.
Chief Kirk Schend & Calumet County Sheriff Mark Wiegert said in doing an investigation with company maintenance employees and a thorough search of the building it was verified there was no active shooter situation, but rather a malfunction with the alarm system.
Both law enforcement leaders thanked the agencies who responded to the scene to assist including Calumet County SWAT, and police departments from Chilton, Reedsville & New Holstein, Calumet County Dispatchers, Brillion Fire, First Responders and Ambulance, and Westlund Buses.
