There is now a drug drop box in the Kiel Police Department lobby.
This drop box is intended for items such as over the counter and prescription medications, as well as controlled substances. Items such as needles, syringes, chemical waste, personal care products, and pill bottles should NOT be placed in the drop box.
There are two reasons for the collection and proper disposal of medications. First, removing these drugs from your house can reduce the likelihood of family or guests using the prescriptions in a way that leads to addiction, continued use of illicit drugs, and accidental poisoning or overdoses.
Second, these drugs should not be placed in the trash or flushed down the toilet since they cannot be removed by landfills, sewage treatment plants, or septic systems and are released into our water supplies.
This is the fifth such drop box in Manitowoc County, with the others located at the Two Rivers and Manitowoc Police Departments, the Sheriff’s Office, and at Mishicot City Hall.
