A Manitowoc alderman and business-owner has issued a public apology after a traffic crash last weekend.
Jeremiah Novak tells SeehaferNews.com he and his wife had just left a downtown nightspot late Friday night when their classic 1966 Chevrolet jumped the curb and damaged a cement planter, before striking the exterior of a building at 814 S. 8th Street.
He explained that the throttle stuck wide open and he couldn’t control the car anymore, saying “The car got away from me, and the safest spot to go is where it went.“
Novak expressed his thankfulness that nobody got hurt in the incident, and said he is not only remorseful, but embarrassed “not only myself, obviously for my family, and for the city of Manitowoc. This isn’t the image that I am, despite the rumors going out there. I just can’t say sorry enough for the situation I put myself in.”
Novak says he’s taking care of the replacement cost for a new planter and, added “We’re gonna move past it as fast as we can, and my wife and I are going to continue doing everything we do for the community. Hopefully everybody has our back.”
Novak was cited for OWI by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department, which handled the case for Manitowoc police.
