Residents in Douglas County rallied against racial violence Thursday as the nation mourned at the memorial for George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Around 250 people gathered at the Government Center in Superior to protest the death of Floyd in police custody. Mayor Jim Paine encouraged people to register to vote, write down the change they want to see and petition the government for it, and pray for justice daily.
Carina Barker brought her 7 and 13-year-old daughters and she said “we’ve been trying to find out a positive way to show our support and just be present and prepared for change.”
At the end of the speeches, protesters marched and displayed their “Black Lives Matters’ and other banners in front of the courthouse.
