Milwaukee Police could use cameras to catch speeders and traffic light violators as part of a bill from a state lawmaker. Assembly Democrat David Crowley of Milwaukee said today (Tuesday) he would ask for a five year pilot program to have cameras do some of the traffic law enforcement while officers focus on “larger crime problems.” The bill would allow cameras at “high risk” intersections as determined by the state D-O-T, and vehicles would automatically be flagged for tickets if they go 20 miles or more above the speed limits. Crowley was joined by two Milwaukee aldermen who cited a 73-percent jump in traffic deaths in the city while citations have dropped by 60-percent in the past eight years.
