
Bail is set at $500 cash for a 34-year-old Sheboygan man facing several charges following a “high speed” chase through Manitowoc late Tuesday afternoon, Michael L. Bowen is charged with Operating while intoxicated–Felony Fleeing and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
Manitowoc Police observed a suspected drug transaction in the 900 block of Washington Street and saw two individuals leave the area proceeding northbound on South 10th Street, which is a one-way street for southbound traffic. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Bowen, fled police heading east on Franklin Street then southbound on South 8th street, which is a one-way street for northbound traffic. The pursuit was terminated.
An investigator with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office spotted Bowen headed west on Dewey Street near Calumet Avenue where he then proceeded to turn westbound on Calumet into eastbound lanes of traffic. The investigator attempted to stop the vehicle. Bowen failed to stop and headed south on State Highway 42 then east on Fricke Drive, a dead-end road, where he intentionally struck one of the pursuing squad cars and headed towards Sheboygan reaching speeds of up to 105 miles-per-hour. During the pursuit, Bowen collided with a parked vehicle before finally coming to rest nearly a 30 minutes later within the 1200 block of 28th Street in Sheboygan where he was taken into custody.
No one was hurt. His 60-year-old passenger from Sheboygan was questioned and released. Conditions of bail are that Bowen maintains absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol and report to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office for photos and prints. He remains in the County Jail with his initial appearance scheduled for June 1st at 1:30.
