Alliant Energy plans to spend $900 million developing six solar energy projects around the state of Wisconsin, which will have an impact on a Sheboygan power plant.
When completed, Alliant would be the largest producer of solar power in the Badger State. The projects would generate a total of 675 megawatts of electricity.
At the same time, the utility plans to shut down its coal-fired Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan by 2022.
Alliant estimates that replacing the coal plant with solar power will save customers more than $2 billion over a 35-year period.
