Scams can impact every business, regardless of location, size, or industry, but they are especially a problem for small businesses.
According to the Better Business Bureau, the top ten scams small businesses have reported include receiving phony invoices, advertisement, stolen identity, phishing, coupon book, vanity awards, over payment and office supply related scams, as well as the so-called Business Email Compromise.
The BEC will see the scammer pose as a vendor or other trusted source, who sends an email to an accountant or chief financial officer. The email asks them to wire money, buy gift cards or send personal information, often for a plausible reason.
If you have fallen for or have been targeted with these or any other scams, be sure to report it to your local law enforcement agency, as well as the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker.
