The coronavirus pandemic has created an $870 million hole in Wisconsin’s economy.
State tax collections took a dive in the first month after the governor’s Safer at Home order closed many businesses.
A big factor was the three-month delay for the state income tax deadline, giving taxpayers until July 15th to send their checks.
Officials say some ground will be made up when people start paying those taxes.
Wisconsin also anticipates $2 billion in federal aid to cover the costs related to the pandemic.
Legislation will need to be changed for that money from Washington to be used to pay the bills in Madison.
