The final report on the deadly April 2018 crash of a medical helicopter in Hazelhurst is blamed on “loss of control in flight,” not mechanical problems. The National Transportation Safety Board issued the report. The pilot – 34-year-old Rico Caruso of Hazelhurst – and emergency medical services crew members 43-year-old Gregory Rosenthal of Mosinee, and 30-year-old Klint Mitchell of Watersmeet, Michigan died in the crash. No mechanical problems were found with the helicopter. The N-T-S-B report indicates the pilot was non-responsive as crew members called to him before the crash. A toxicology test came back clean. The crew was heading to Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff from Madison.
