A spokesperson for the American Cancer Society says with the Safer at Home Order still in place, they’ve planned virtual meetings of the organization through June.
Heather Van Vonderen tells SeehafeNews.com, “like everyone, COVID-19 has had a large impact on our organization.” She said everything that is going on can “put our mission at risk, and progress that we have made in the fight against cancer.”
Van Vonderen went on to explain that mission work is more important than ever, because “cancer patients are some of the most vulnerable in the current state of the world. We need to make sure they are taken care of and that they have everything they need while they are going through this time.”
She also told us that May 5th is Giving Tuesday and they’d be grateful for any donation and suggested going to Relay for Life of the Lakeshore to donate any amount, small or large.
Van Vonderen points out their 800-number (1-800-ACS-2345) is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
During the month of March 80% of their calls from patients were COVID related, which showed how much their programs & services are needed.
