A total of nine charges were filed against a 25-year-old Howard woman after her son was found dead in the trunk of her car.
On January 26th, Deputies with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Howard on a welfare check and found two children unattended outside.
The children were taken by Child Protective Services, but the investigation revealed that the mother, Sagal Hussein, had a third child who was nowhere to be seen. Hussein claimed the child was living with his father in Michigan, but the man denied that claim.
The search continued for the child until March 30th, when Hussein’s vehicle was seized, and the remains of the young boy were found in the trunk. The Dane County Medical Examiner determined the boy had been dead for months before his body was found.
Hussein is now facing charges including Chronic Neglect of a Child Resulting in Death, Moving/Hiding/Burying a Corpse of a Child, two other counts of Neglecting a Child, and four counts of Resisting or Obstructing an Officer.
Hussein is being held in the Brown County Jail on $500,000 cash bond.
