
Major League Baseball teams will be given permission today (Monday) to furlough employees or cut their pay.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports commissioner Rob Manfred will issue the formal notification which goes into effect May 1st.
Teams don’t have to take the steps, but it could help the organizations facing the stiffest financial pressures.
In a deal reached last month between M-L-B and the player’s association, it was agreed they will receive a pro-rated portion of their salary in 2020, so, if the league plays 81 games, they will get half of their contracted salary amount.
