With the Safer at Home order in place the last few weeks because of the coronavirus, a social media phenomenon has seen police cars driving past children’s homes on their birthdays.
Manitowoc Deputy Police Chief Jason Freiboth tells SeehaerNews.com, with a lower call volume for departments across the country it’s “a good opportunity to reach out & connect with kids” during the COVID-19 quarantine.
Last week, Freiboth said a Manitowoc County Sheriff’s deputy asked the MPD to participate in one such show of support.
Three or four city squads joined-in & drove by a residence on Chasm Lane Wednesday & paraded by the house “with their lights & sirens activated.”
The deputy chief said it was “really neat” seeing the video as the little girl watched the cars go by “in amazement”.
Since then, Freiboth told us the MPD has had two more requests to show up at kids’ homes on their birthday and the department is tentatively planning to do so later this month.
He added, “we’ll try to honor future invites, depending on available manpower & call volume.”
