A news conference was scheduled for today (Tuesday) to propose red light cameras at Milwaukee intersections. W-I-T-I T-V says a group rallied Monday to reduce reckless driving and traffic deaths in Wisconsin’s largest city. Common Council president Ashanti Hamilton was there, and he said cameras would let officials monitor a “number of dangerous intersections on a continuous basis.” The red light cameras would catch those running red lights, and tickets would be mailed to the vehicles’ owners. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, communities in about half the states use red light cameras — and Wisconsin has no laws against them, although no places in the state have installed them.
