The Two Rivers Police Department is reminding citizens to be aware of scams and to know that they can happen to anyone, even in the City of Two Rivers.
Recently, Officers from the Two Rivers Police Department took a complaint of possible fraud from an 80-year-old female victim residing in the City of Two Rivers.
The victim said she was originally contacted in November 2019 by someone claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House. The victim was told she won one million dollars but had to pay taxes and fees before collecting her winnings. From November 2019 through March 2020, the victim gave tens of thousands of dollars to men who would come to her house to collect the fees and taxes from her.
On March 18, 2020, two men returned to the victim’s house requesting an additional $4,000. The victim was able to call the police and the two men were located by Two Rivers officers and taken into custody. The suspects were later identified as Ratko Vasilic and Slavo Milic who reside in Chicago.
The Two Rivers Police Department reports that Vasilic and Milic are not US citizens and came to the US from Serbia. Officers believe that Vasilic and Milic may be working as part of a larger fraud ring and there may be more victims.
Both men were transported to Manitowoc County Jail and referred to the Manitowoc County District Attorney’s Office for Felony Theft by Fraud charges.
Det. Lt. Wiesner asks that if anyone has had any monetary exchanges with Milic or Vasilic please contact the Two Rivers Police Department at (920)793-1191.
