There’s a severe blood shortage in this country due to Covid-19.
Laura McGuire, Communications Manager for the American Red Cross in Madison, tells SeehaferNews.com as of yesterday there were more than 200,000 blood donations that have gone uncollected via cancellation of 7,000 blood drives.
McGuire encourages eligible donors to call for an appointment at 1-800-Red Cross or do so online at Red Crossblood.org.
She emphasized there’s no data or evidence that Covid-19 can be transmitted by blood transfusion and they continually focus on the safety of donors, staff and volunteers.
And, with social distancing in effect, the American Red Cross has increased safety protocols before you actually give blood by taking your temperature and asking questions to learn if you’ve been exposed to coronavirus.
