The Manitowoc Public School District has been working with the UW-Green Bay Manitowoc campus for the past 18-months on a co-educational experience.
MPSD Superintendent Mark Holzman says the new program is called “Rising Phoenix”, and all of their sophomores at Lincoln High School are eligible to apply for it.
Holzman explains that it “provides our students an opportunity to attend coursework…at the UW, while they are dually enrolled at Lincoln High School.”
The students can take up to 15 college credits a semester while attending classes at the UW. Students could then choose to either enter the work-world or continuing at a university with 60 credits on their way to a bachelors degree.
Holzman says that the program is free for all students at Lincoln, as the District and UW Green Bay Manitowoc Campus are collaborating to cover the cost. Holzan said they are doing this to “remove any barriers for any students who are thinking about college, but aren’t sure if it’s for them.”
The superintendent added, “the beauty for the Manitowoc Public School District is that the UW Green Bay Manitowoc is less than a mile away from the Lincoln campus.”
