The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office released information today about two crashes that occurred Friday afternoon.
The first occurred just before 3:30 pm when a vehicle, operating at a reduced speed on I-43 due to a malfunction, was rear-ended by a second unit. Justin Smothers of Bourbonnais, Illinois was transported to Aurora Medical Center for body pain, while the first driver Jacqueline Hawkins of Green Bay went to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for a head injury and complaints of pain to her right leg and left arm. Smothers was ticketed for following too close.
A second collision took place just before 4 pm on ’43 at Westview Road in the Town of Centerville. A Sheboygan man, Gregory Stamatelakys noticed multiple vehicles stopped on the interstate and when he began to slow down, another unit struck his rear driver side wheel. That motorist, Megan Anderson, of Manitowoc then had her SUV make contact with a concrete barrier before it flipped & rolled multiple times. Anderson suffered only minor injuries as a result of the crash. A third vehicle was also struck by the first unit, but the operator was uninjured.
