Last week we reported that the Manitowoc Police Department joined the Ring Neighbors Program and some citizens have already been contacted to utilize their video surveillance.
As a recap, Ring is a video doorbell service, and “Neighbors” is their way to allow others with the service to share videos regarding what their doorbell saw.
One citizen shared a message they received from the MPD through the Neighbors app. The message indicated that the police department was requesting video of a specific incident and directs any questions to the Shift Commander. Users can choose to share their footage if they’d like to.
The citizen also said she scrolled through the feed and noted that people are using the service to locate potentially lost pets and inform neighbors of any “suspicious” people captured on camera.
Citizens do not need to have a Ring device to use the Neighbors app.
