Last week we reported that the Manitowoc Police Department has begun creating a list of every security camera in the city to help them solve crimes quicker, and now they have joined forces with the popular video doorbell, Ring.
These devices are attached to an entryway, much like a standard doorbell, but they have a video camera and microphones in them, which allows for the user to see who is at their door.
The company also has a program called “Ring Neighbors” which according to their website “allows you to share security-related events (including videos your security camera recorded) to the timeline. It also lets you see posts from other users as well as from municipal authorities”.
The Manitowoc Police Department has joined Neighbors and can now have quick access to the video and audio recorded by any Ring device that is connected to the program, and they can relay information to the program as well.
This will allow investigators easier access to the video in case of a crime and will help them keep the public more informed.
