There’s a new school record holder in Boys Basketball at Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
Senior Trey Zastrow eclipsed the former career scoring record last night during the Lancers 72-52 home loss to Oostburg. Zastrow broke Mark Stelter’s standard of 1,896 points, set from 1974 to ’78, with a jumper and one midway through the 2nd half. The game was stopped and Trey said what would follow was a “pretty awesome experience”.
After the game, Trey told SeehaferNews.com the record wasn’t even on his mind when he was shooting the free throw. “The crowd started cheering and I was like ‘Oh yeah I must have done it.” He praised God for the opportunity and thanked his teammates for helping him along the way but called it a “small accomplishment in the big picture.”
Coincidentally, it was Mark Stelter’s grandson, Jacob Shultz, who had the assist for the record-breaker.
Gordy Zastrow is Trey’s coach and father, and he said Trey “works very very hard at it,” going on to say that he is “very proud of him.”
Trey needed 17-points entering the game and wound up with a team leading 23 giving him 1,903 points in his career.
Santana Lomibao chipped in 22 for the Lancers, who can still earn a share of the North Division title with a win at Ozaukee next Thursday.
