The Green Bay Police Department has reported that they are still experiencing an alarming trend of stolen cars in the city. Yesterday evening at 7:24 p.m. a local pizza delivery car was stolen as it was left running/unattended at a local hotel. As officers arrived, they were unable to locate the vehicle and notified all officers of the stolen car.
At approximately, 12:12 a.m. officers responded to a suspicious situation in the 900 BLK of Shea Ave. A resident was reporting a car was possibly driven into a ditch and someone was knocking on their door. Once on scene, officers located a vehicle and realized that this was the car reported stolen from the hotel.
In the investigation, officers arrested a 12-year-old juvenile for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent (OMVWOC). The Green Bay PD is recommending charges to juvenile intake for OMVWOC for this suspect. The passenger in the car, a 14-year-old juvenile was also charged with the OMVWOC for knowingly riding in the vehicle. Officers also concluded that this juvenile is responsible for 4 prior auto thefts in the city.
Year to date, the Green Bay Police Department has investigated 20 auto thefts compared to 19 in 2019. In looking at the five-year average, there is a 59% increase in auto thefts.
The Green Bay Police have said that this theft could have been avoided if the car was not left running and unattended and the age of the suspects committing these crimes is concerning for all residents.
