The Milwaukee Health Department is confirming the first pediatric flu death of the season.
Commissioner of Health Doctor Jeanette Kowalik said, “we are incredibly saddened to learn that a child has died of complications related to influenza, our thoughts are with the child’s family during this difficult time.”
This is the third flu-related death of a child in Wisconsin since the season began last fall. There have been around 400 influenza hospitalizations in Milwaukee.
Kowalik says it is not too late to get a flu shot. M-H-D offers free flu vaccines to children during walk-in clinics.
