Former Red Sox infielder Brock Holt is reportedly signing with the Milwaukee Brewers for the 2020 season.
MLB.com reports Holt’s deal is pending a physical with the team.
31-year-old Holt played the majority of the 2019 season in Boston at second base but also spent time at shortstop, third, first base and the corner outfield.
Holt hit .297 in 295 plate appearances for the Sox last season. He was an All-Star in 2015 and won a World Series title in 2018.
Terms of the deal weren’t made public.
Meanwhile, Brewers owner Mark Attanasio says his club lost money in the 2019 season.
Attanasio spoke to reporters Tuesday before the first full-squad workout of spring training in Arizona. He said, “yeah, we had an operating loss last year.”
The Brewers projected payroll for 2020 is about $95 million or around $30 million less than the $125 million it spent on players last season. Attanasio indicated the salaries paid to Yasmani Grandal and Mike Moustakas in part contributed to the operating loss.
He also mentioned the club cannot go into too much debt — because that’s what gets a team into trouble.
