The former principal at Valders Middle School, a Valders Athletic Director, and a volunteer assistant Cross Country and Track Coach passed away at age 70. Derrick Krey died Friday in Green Bay where he had been hospitalized since Monday.
Vikings Coach Bill Dietrich had some memories of Derrick, telling us that “his fondest (days) were in these past 4 years when the guys were doing their thing at State.”
Dietrich continued, “He was our librarian of sorts, as he compiled cross-country history from the onset at Valders in 1967 and every year after its’ startup.”
Krey was also a statewide group of coaches that ranked teams for the Coaches poll. His trademark, though, was “his occasional baking bursts where he brought pans of brownies & ice cream for the whole team.”
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty.
A visitation is set for Christianson & Deja Funeral Home in Valders tomorrow evening from 4-7 with the visitation continuing Wednesday morning at the church, between 9:30 and 10:45.
